New York, New York!

My first adventure to the USA happened in December, a trip to NEW YORK CITY!

For people who love to shop Fifth Avenue is a dream, whether it be the glass elevator in the Apple store or the twinkling lights of Tiffany’s, or the countless designer stores that you wish you had the money to splurge in, New York is simply shopping heaven!  The department stores such as Macy’s, Saks and Bloomingdales are like a maze of designer and high street delights, but with the rush of Christmas shoppers they began to resemble the environment of an oven. My go to shop for visitors to New York City aiming to find a designer bargain would be Century 21, the department store with a TK Maxx ‘vibe’ to it. The store included labels such as Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss and Tommy Hilfiger for a massively discounted price, including my personal favourite CALVIN KLEIN UNDERWEAR.

Getting to see all the sight’s in New York was incredible, including the amazing views from the Empire State Building, seeing the Statue of Liberty up close and personal and visiting Wall Street and the 9/11 memorial. The 9/11 memorial and museum was a personally breath-taking moment for me. Seeing first hand the sheer amount of people who lost their lives in the tragedy of 9/11 and hearing their breath-taking stories was extremely touching. Not to mention the exhibition on the ‘History of 9/11’ running through the events leading up to and during 9/11, which was extremely interesting and enlightening, making it definitely worth the visit. The Empire State Building allowed us to take in the spectacular view and many sky scrapers in New York and was truly incredible. This was also a very speedy experience, despite stories I have heard from others. Making my number one tip for visiting New  York City to PRE-BOOK ALL YOUR TICKETS!!!!!!!!!

New York is known as the city that never sleeps, and this is most definitely represented by Times Square. The masses of people, bright lights and individuals dressed as Disney characters, make it all seem a bit surreal, yet exciting! Buying tickets for a Broadway show (Mamma Mia) from under the red steps in Times Square meant we got them for a great price, and the show was worth every penny. Full of singing and dancing, it was hard to leave without a smile on your face.

To escape to some peace and quiet Central Park is the go to place in New York. Offering horse and carriage rides, and blissful lakes and trails, Central Park really is a wonder that I recommend a visit to in your lifetime. If you visit during the festive period, ice skating in the park is worth a try, and will cause many laughs, especially if you end up with the wide fitting skates similar to the ones I had. Bryant Park Christmas market also offers some original Christmas gifts, and beautiful hot apple cider.

I hope this has persuaded you even more so to visit the beautiful NYC, it really is worth the trip!
