For my summer holiday I went to a town in Turkey called Turgutreis, which is approximately 20 minutes from Bodrum. I stayed at the Yasmin Resort, which had breathtaking views, especially from the rooms. The only downside was that the rooms were on a big hill. Although golf buggy’s were available to take you to your room, these were limited in number. The hotel had a beautiful setting, having a long jetty and beach huts that you could sunbathe in, giving the Yasmin resort a luxury vibe.
The food at the hotel was really nice, due to the large buffet and the wide variety of selection. The hotel also had three a la carte restaurants (Italian, Sea food and Turkish) which you could visit once, each week of your stay. The food at the three restaurants was amazing, with the steak at the Italian being the best I have had yet! Turkish food is beautiful, including my personal favourite of goats cheese and spinach pancakes which are freshly prepared at the beach restaurant at lunch time. We went to the Saturday market in Turgutreis, which is one of the largest in the peninsula. Here there was lots of Turkish Delight on offer to try, and a variety of spices and teas, and of course your “Turkish Fakes” section (If you do not like being hassled, I suggest you avoid this section and stick to the food and jewellery).
The town of Turgutreis was quaint but nice, with lots of tourist shops and bars/restaurants, with lots of friendly locals. It is simple to get to from the hotel, with a shuttle bus running to the town. There is also a shuttle bus that runs from the hotel to Bodrum. Despite not trying this, I heard good feedback about Bodrum from other individuals at the hotel, so would recommend going here for a day out.
We also went on a boat trip from the hotel to different islands in Turkey. This is definitely worth doing, as I have never seen such clear blue sea as on Fork Island and Miami Beach Island. The boat also stopped in a village called Gumusluk, which looked like a Greek village, and was beautiful, with lots of trendy bars and restaurants along the sea front. If we return to Turkey, we would definitely visit/stay in this village. And I would strongly advise anyone who stays at the Yasmin Resort to go to Gumusluk.
I had an amazing stay at the Yasmin Resort, and could not recommend any higher going to that side of Turkey, as it is beautiful with spectacular views and plenty to do and see, especially if you can hire/go on a boat!! Kos, an island in Greece, can also be seen from Turgutreis, and would be easily accessible on a boat. Turkey was an amazing country to visit, with gorgeous food, and friendly people- a great place to go on your summer holidays!!
p.s. Try Apple Tea, it is amazing!!!!!!
